HOST OR SPONSOR AN INTERN
By allowing students to become interns at your business or non-profit, you are not only adding an eager and resourceful member to your team, but are also training the future workforce and leaders. High school internships are increasingly important for this latest generation. Learning life and work skills before reaching college age puts these students at an advantage that will help them with not only their future places of employment, but also with social and academic interactions. HOST OR SPONSOR A FIELD TRIP
Field trips are valuable work-based learning opportunities that are not only educational, but entertaining! Our students enjoy many field trips to businesses, non-profits, colleges, and other educational facilities. Field trips allow the opportunity for our students to speak one-on-one to people in their field of interest, learn more about the ins and outs of how businesses run, learn about the next steps they need to take to reach their goals, and much more. If you are interested in hosting or sponsoring a field trip, please click here.
BECOME A CLASS SPEAKER
Our students are always delighted when a person in their field of interest comes to speak to them about what the field is like and how they can achieve their goals. It’s important that students learn the pros and cons of the field that they are considering, as well as the obstacles they must pass to get their dream job. If you are interested in speaking to our students about your organization or business, please click here. Our students would love to hear from you.
PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON STUDENT WORK
Our Pathways students create an ample amount of work while learning in their Academy. Whether the focus is Information Technology, Performing Arts, Engineering, Health, Law, or Media, our students look forward to and appreciate feedback from industry professionals. If you would like to look at and provide feedback on our students’ work, please click here.
CO-TEACH A UNIT OF STUDY
Many business partners have shown an interest in co-teaching a unit of study for our students. These units are generally specific topics in which the co-teacher has advanced experience and can better explain the subject in depth to our students. If you would be interested in temporarily co-teaching a subject for our students, please click here.
PARTICIPATE ON A SENIOR DEFENSE PANEL
Students in the West Contra Costa County Unified School District undergo Senior Defenses when looking to graduate. A Defense entails them going over their projects, what they’ve learned, what they hope to accomplish, and how they will continue their college & career efforts. If you are interested in joining a Senior Defense Panel, please click here.
BECOME AN ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER
Our Advisory Board members are imperative to the success of College & Career Pathways. They meet roughly once or twice a month with the Academy Leads to discuss upcoming work-based learning opportunities, events, contests, grants, scholarships, and anything that could help the students. If you are interested in joining one of our Advisory Boards, please click here.
BECOME A STUDENT MENTOR
Whether a student is struggling with or excelling at a subject, mentors provide one-on-one insight to help them improve their futures immensely. Mentoring not only provides students with in-depth knowledge of a subject, but also shows them there is someone who cares and that they are not alone in these challenges.
